Please find below information on the last academic seminar of the year on Tuesday 8th July at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington.

Come along for two really useful sessions on:

7-7:45pm: Advanced literature searching

Hands on session in the Imperial computer labs covering all the key search engines and how to do effective searches.

7:45pm-8:15pm: Delicious hot supper provided by Lena’s Cafe.

8:15-9:00pm: What makes a good mentor and how to find one.

Professor Slaim Khakoo, consultant hepatologist at Imperial college, and Sally Lukins, head of the National Mentoring Scheme run by the Academy of Medical Sciences

The nearest tube is Paddington, and the venue is the Medical School Building - turn left from Praed St at the black gates into St Mary’s Hospital, and it’s the second entrance on the right. Tell the security guard you are here for the Academic Seminar and he will let you through.

Academic Seminar

An academic seminar was held on 30th January 2008, organised by Dr. Kate Mandeville and Dr. Dami Onifade.

Topics covered in the seminary included critical appraisal and statistics (Dr. Felicity Clemens, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) , and an introductory session on grant application (Dr. Justin Green, Dept Infectious Diseases and Immunity, Hammersmith Hospital).

Many thanks to the above speakers for their time and effort, and to Dr. Mandeville for organising the event.

SAFT expansion

The Society of Academic Foundation Doctors (SAFT)’s main role is to provide both grassroots representation of academic foundation doctors, but also to provide an engaging forum for doctors interested in a career in academic medicine. In order to address both these objectives, I am delighted to announce SAFT’s expansion to include doctors outside of our original base in London. This was a natural progression as demonstrated by the extensive nationwide interest in our latest event, the talk by Dr Mark Walport in August.
